Scholars, collectors, librarians, and anyone interested in studying, collecting, or managing material texts often gather information about them in spreadsheets. Spreadsheet data can be hard to navigate, display, and disseminate—both for the owners and potential users. Awesome Table helps to transform data into a format that is easily searchable, filterable, and shareable in a user-friendly interface. This tool creates a simple way to offer a digital entry point into a data set without any additional skills beyond basic familiarity with Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel. In this webinar, Alex Wingate will demonstrate some of the potential uses of Awesome Table, including examples from her own research (click here for an example), specifically the collocation of dispersed bibliographical metadata into a single, searchable catalog. She will cover step-by-step the basics of connecting Google Sheets to Awesome Table, inserting filters, adding photos and hyperlinks, and methods for sharing the results with colleagues or the public. Alex Wingate is an MLS student at Indiana University Bloomington who researches the book culture of early modern Navarre, Spain using book history and digital humanities approaches. She has a BA in Hispanic Studies and Linguistics from the College of William and Mary, and an MA in the History of the Book from the University of London’s Institute of English Studies.
