Controlled vocabularies and you: a panel discussion on addressing terminologies.

The RBMS Bibliographic Standards Committee’s Program Planning Group will be hosting a panel on reparative description and controlled vocabularies and thesauri. In this lightly moderated panel, we will hear from people involved in creating or editing/remediating controlled vocabularies: Erica Bruchko, Michelle J. Cronquist, and Staci Ross from the African-American Subject Funnel Project; Lillian Castillo-Speed from the Chicano Thesaurus; Shavonn Matsuda, from Lau Ā Lau Ka ʻIke; and Ryan Hildebrand from the RBMS Controlled Vocabulary Editorial Group’s Prejudicial Materials Group.

Speakers will discuss their projects, how these vocabularies or thesauri can be used – especially to redress pejorative or harmful terminology – and their process is for including and choosing among terms.
