Einbanddatenbank

Description A searchable database of bookbindings from the 15th and 16th centuries, largely drawn from bindings in German collections. Users can search by the characteristics of individual binding tools, or by individual bindings workshops. The initial data set includes rubbings from bindings taken in the late 19th and early 20th centuries by Paul Schwenke, Ilse Schunke, Konrad Haebler, and Ernst Kyriss, and subsequent tool rubbings taken in the mid 20th century. These have been supplemented by new rubbings and, increasingly, from photographs taken in raking light.
